Individual Internships
Many senior graduate students explore potential career paths in a pharmaceutical or biotech company by arranging individual summer internships. Returning interns share their experience with other graduate students in a roundtable discussion scheduled in early fall every year.
My internship at Genentech in the Small Molecule Analytical Chemistry Department was a very challenging experience that was fruitful in my time there and even more meaningful in the opportunities that it led me to. Aside from the unparalleled networking opportunities that I was involved in internally, the name of a well-respected company has given me a strong platform for networking encounters outside of Genentech. The experience from my internship has boosted my fellowship applications and has broadened my career searches. Whether or not your internship company is right for you after your PhD, you will learn so much along the journey!
