Professional Development

The College of Pharmacy maintains career development opportunities for graduate students. These opportunities range from seminars, panel discussions, interviews, career days, and formal courses designed to develop students’ skills, introduce them to career options outside of academic research, and foster connections with company representatives that may assist them in securing future employment. The UIC College of Pharmacy’s Office of Professional Development supports the students’ personal, professional, and social development in service of furthering the practice of Pharmacy. Programs are planned and conducted to help develop important performance-based abilities such as verbal/nonverbal communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and soft skills. Specifically, the development of soft skills through effective programming will enhance development, for example, of one’s presence and “elevator” speech, personal and social competence, and interviewing skills.
